THE ANNOUNCEMENT by Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun (Official Competition). Based on actual events and told over the course of a single night, Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun’s satirical comedy follows a failed 1963 Turkish coup d’État. (21:00, Cinémathèque)

CHINESE PORTRAIT by Xiaoshuai Wang (Documentary Competition). Shot over a decade, this state-of-the nation documentary, charts the rising inequality in China. (16:30, Cinémathèque)

THE WALDHEIM WALTZ by Ruther Beckerman. A history lesson in deceit and ‘alternative facts’ (18:30, Cinémathèque). Preceded by a cocktail reception at 6pm and followed by a debate with Gregor Schusterschitz, Austrian Ambassador to Luxembourg.

TEL AVIV ON FIRE by Sameh Zoabi (Luxembourgish Co-Production).  An intelligent commentary on Israeli-Palestinian relations set against the backdrop of a fictional TV soap opera. (9:00, Ciné Utopia)

 

GET ARTSY WITH LUXFILMFEST

Get into the artist’s mindset at LuxFilmFest today with Julian Schnabel’s biopic AT ETERNITY’S GATE. The film chronicles Vincent van Gogh's exile in the South of France with a stunning performance from Willem Dafoe that earned him a Best Actor Oscar nomination (19:00, Kinepolis). Afterwards, head to the MUDAM for UP TO ELEVEN – grab a drink, have a dance and see the director’s painting in the permanent collection.

Or you can travel further back in time with MR. TURNER, Mike Leigh’s exploration of the eccentric British painter J.M.W. Turner starring a grunting and grumpy Timothy Spall. Part of the Mike Leigh retrospective (16:00, Ciné Utopia)
