CHRIS MARKER, NEVER EXPLAIN, NEVER COMPLAIN
France , 2016 / 146 min / French OV with English subt. / Documentary
A documentary by Jean-Marie Barbe, Arnaud Lambert followed by a cinemix by Christophe Hanesse. In collaboration with MUDAM.
Writer, filmmaker, essayist, extensive traveller, photographer, a bit of a pianist, a bit of a painter, an animal lover, a committed intellectual and eulogist of the imaginary, Chris Marker explored most means of artistic expression for sixty years. Mixing the testimonies of some of his closest companions with numerous excerpts from his films, “Chris Marker, Never Explain, Never Complain” traces the key moments of this unique cinematography, espousing through it the forms and questions of cinematic engagement and politics of the second half of the twentieth century.
After the screening, the evening continues at Mudam with an exceptional cinemix by Christophe Hanesse who will overlay his best vinyls onto the series of short films “Dog Star Man” by director Stan Brakhage. On the programme: experimental masterpieces projected on a giant screen and equally experimental music featuring martial, industrial and ambient sounds.
