Synopsis

An inventive coming-of-age horror about girlhood in Malaysia.

Carefree twelve-year-old Zaffan lives in a conservative rural community in Malaysia and enjoys her status as the popular kid: she’s the only girl at her religious school who wears a bra beneath her Islamic dress, and she does wild dances for TikTok. But when her body starts to change at an alarming rate, she is ostracized by her friends and family. Now bullied by her community, Zaff decides to embrace her monstrosity and release her inner tiger.

A bold and energetic film which combines elements of the body horror and coming-of-age genres with a dash of “Mean Girls.” With exceptional performances from the cast, Tiger Stripes is an engrossing, female-centric story about girlhood and accepting difference.
