OUR “CARTES BLANCHES”<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

THE NEW MAN \u2014 OMI NOBU<\/a><\/h1>\n

For the first time this year, director Abderrahmane Sissako<\/a> has been given Carte Blanche<\/strong> by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action<\/strong> and LuxFilmFest. Acclaimed for Bamako, Timbuktu won him the C\u00e9sar for Best Director, and he is a leading figure in African cinema. He will be coming to Luxembourg the day after his film Black Tea<\/a> is presented in Official Competition at the Berlinale.<\/p>\n

He chose Carlos Yuri Ceuninck’s<\/a> THE NEW MAN (OMI NOBU)<\/strong><\/a> (CV, BE, SD, DE and present at the screening), which tells the story of 77-year-old Quirino, who has lived for over 30 years in an abandoned Cape Verdean village perched in a deep valley between sea and mountains.<\/p>\n

LE TABLEAU VOL\u00c9<\/a><\/h1>\n

As it does every year, LuxFilmFest is giving its main sponsors carte blanche.\u00a0 Orange <\/b>has chosen LE TABLEAU VOL\u00c9<\/a>,<\/strong> a film by French director Pascal Bonitzer<\/a> (who co-produced Tout de suite maintenant with Samsa Film). It tells the story of an auctioneer (Alex Lutz) confronted with a lost work of art. The first screening took place in Angers last January.<\/p>\n

The director will be present to introduce his film.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Screening: 7.03 \u2014 19h, Cin\u00e9 Utopia<\/a><\/p>\n

KARAOK\u00c9<\/a><\/h1>\n

BGL BNP PARIBAS<\/strong> has chosen KARAOK\u00c9<\/a> (St\u00e9phane Ben Lahcene<\/a>), starring Mich\u00e8le Laroque as B\u00e9n\u00e9dicte, an opera singer with a waning career who looks for salvation in the form of karaoke enthusiast Fatou (Claudia Tagbo). The director had already directed antoher musical film, “Alors on danse”, which starred Mich\u00e8le Laroque. A feel-good family film.<\/p>\n

DREAM SCENARIO<\/a><\/h1>\n

As for KINEPOLIS<\/strong>, the group is offering a session of DREAM SCENARIO<\/a> (Kristoffer Borgli)<\/a>: Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage), an ordinary teacher, finds his life turned upside down when he starts appearing in the dreams of millions of people. He becomes something of a media phenomenon, but also must come to terms with his new-found fame.<\/p>\n

FIREBRAND<\/a><\/h1>\n

Parce qu\u2019Henri VIII (Jude Law) avait la f\u00e2cheuse habitude de d\u00e9capiter ses femmes, Catherine Parr (Alicia Vikander) se savait en danger. FIREBRAND (LE JEU DE LA REINE) <\/a>(<\/strong>Karim A\u00efnouz<\/a>), qui avait fait sensation lors de la derni\u00e8re session cannoise, vous fera trembler avec elle. Bas\u00e9 que le livre \u00e9ponyme de Elizabeth Fremantle, le film se concentre surtout sur la survie de cette reine durant les derniers mois de son mari malade et violent.<\/p>\n

FIREBRAND<\/a><\/strong>(Karim A\u00efnouz<\/a>) is screened with sensational praise at the last Cannes Film Festival and focuses on the Tudor court of Henry VIII (Jude Law). Henry was in the habit of beheading his wives, and Catherine Parr (Alicia Vikander) must navigate the danger. Based on Elizabeth Fremantle’s novel, the film focuses more on the Queen quest to survival during the last month of the king’s life.<\/p>\n

DRIVE-AWAY DOLLS<\/h1>\n

A ‘couple-on-the-run’ starring Margaret Qualley, a bankable young American actress, spotted in the series Maid but also in supporting roles such as in Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest excellent film Poor Things, and Geraldine Viswanathan.<\/p>\n

DRIVE-AWAY DOLLS<\/strong><\/a> is a queer, wacky film, a joyful homage to B-movies, featuring a crazy cast (Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal) directed by Ethan Coen<\/a> and his wife, who usually edits his feature films.<\/p>\n
