And the EFA-YAA 2021 goes to...

The Crossing wins EFA Young Audience Award 2021.

3,600 young jurors from 38 countries elect Norwegian film by Johanne Helgeland.

With the originally planned theatre screenings cancelled due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the 12-14-year-old jury members from across Europe watched the three nominated films (Pinocchio by Matteo Garrone, The Crossing by Johanne Helgeland, Wolfwalkers by Tomm Moore & Ross Stewart) online on the EFA-YAA website. They had the opportunity to talk about the films in online discussions moderated by film educators, before casting their votes online. The 30-minute awards ceremony was streamed live on where it remains available for those who missed it and want to catch up on the results.

After the Norwegian drama The Crossing (Flukten over grensen) was announced as the winner, director Johanne Helgeland thanked the European Film Academy and all the young film aficionados as well as her collaborators. She congratulated the other nominated films and stated: "All three films show that we need compassionate films for kids - you are our future!"

On the initiative of the Luxembourg City Film Festival, 15 young jurors from Luxembourg took part in the event. A warm thank you to all our jury members that took part in the EFA Young Audience Award 2021. We're looking forward to next year's edition and remain confident that it will once again take place physically, in cinemas all over the continent.

The EFA Young Audience Award is organised and presented by the European Film Academy and EFA Productions with the support of the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM). The national YAA events were organised with the support of the respective national partners in 66 different cities across Europe.
