
INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY 2022
The United Nations General Assembly designated the 27th of January, the day of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp, as the Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust and for the Prevention of Crimes against Humanity. Around this date, the Zentrum für politesch Bildung and its partners organise numerous educational activities and public film screenings.
Organised by: Fondation Zentrum fir politesch Bildung, Luxembourg City Film Festival, Centre National de l'Audiovisuel (CNA), Cinextdoor, SCRIPT (Service de Coordination de la Recherche et de l'Innovation pédagogiques et technologiques), Institut de Formation del'Éducation Nationale (IFEN), Ministère de l'Éducation nationale de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse, and the Fondation luxembourgeoise pour la mémoire de la Shoah.
In cooperation with: Botschaft der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Luxemburg, the Luxembourg City Cinémathèque, Comité Auschwitz Luxembourg, Escher Theater.
The public film screenings for this occasion will be:
- The Unforgiven (FI, DK 2017) by Lars Feldballe-Petersen
- Dem Leben entgegen - Kindertransporte nach Schweden (SW, AT, 2020) by Gülseren Sengezer
Two public film conferences are organised:
- At the Cinematheque of the City of Luxembourg: Films and Memory: Allied Images of Nazi Camps with Gian Maria Tore and Christoph Brüll.
- At Ciné Scala in Diekirch: Filming the Unimaginable? - The history of the representation of the Holocaust in cinema and television, from 1945 to today with Yves Steichen.
The school screenings organised for this occasion will be:
- Quo Vadis, Aida? (BiH, AT, RO, NL, DE, FR, NO, TR 2020) by Jasmila Zbanic
- The Crossing (NO, 2020) by Johanne Helgeland
Training sessions for teachers will be organised:
- Das wird man doch noch sagen dürfen - Meinungsfreiheit im Klassenraum, on January 12, from 4:30 to 6:30pm
- Der Umgang mit Antisemitismus in der Schule (online) in two parts:
- 1st part: January 20, from 3pm to 5:30pm
- 2nd part: January 25, from 3pm to 5:30pm
- Der 2. Weltkrieg und die Shoah in Luxemburg im Unterricht , on January 21 from 4 to 6pm
School reading sessions will be organised:
- Marisha, d'Meedchen aus dem Faass, reading for children by Roland Meyer, author and teacher
- Anne Frank: Das Tagebuch, theatrical reading for children by Fabienne Hollwege, actress
