LuxFilmLab #11 - Everything Went Fine

At next Wednesday's LuxFilmLab on 1st September at 7.30 PM, we are going to be screening François Ozon's most recent feature at Ciné Utopia: EVERYTHING WENT FINE (TOUT S'EST BIEN PASSÉ). After its world premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and before heading to the San Sebastián International Film Festival, we'll have the honour to present the film to Luxembourg audiences.

Adapted from Emmanuèle Bernheim's eponymous novel, this vibrant portrait of a businessman who, after surviving a stroke, asks his daughter to help him die is the first collaboration between Sophie Marceau, André Dussollier and François Ozon. The acclaimed director elicited a quietly outstanding performance from his two leading actors who shine in a moving father-daughter story.

Despite the seemingly dark subject of assisted dying, "the film had to portray life, it had to have a certain rhythm and needed to emphasise the comedic aspects of the situation", explained the director. "There's no pathos to be found here, the film had to be shot in the François Ozon-style which wouldn't work in a cheap tear-jerker. This mix of the dramatic circumstances they are going through and the absurdity of it all, that's what life is all about." By adhering to this approach, Ozon succeeded in crafting a journey towards death that works both as a thriller and as a satirical comedy not to be missed.

Tickets for the LuxFilmLab screening are available as of now in the Kinepolis webshop at the regular rates of Ciné Utopia*. Access to the screening will be subject to CovidCheck rules and regulations**.

About LuxFilmLab:
The first Wednesday of every month, LuxFilmLab - a joint initiative by Luxembourg City Film Festival and Kinepolis - highlights one feature film, chosen in cooperation by LuxFilmFest's Artistic Committee and the Kinepolis programme team. A member of the Artistic Committee introduces the special LuxFilmLab screenings, with the aim of supporting films whose release dates didn't allow for them to be selected for the Festival itself but whose artistic qualities would very likely have led to their inclusion in the LuxFilmFest line-up.

*LuxFilmFest isn't involved in the commercial aspects of these screenings. Access to the screenings and ticket prices are set by Kinepolis.

**Please note that to access the screening, every customer aged 6 years or older will have to present a CovidCheck certificate (digitally or on paper).
You also have the option to take a (non-certified) antigen self-test on site at the cost of 2.50 €. In return, you will receive a discount voucher of -2.50 €* valid the day of your visit on your "Food & Drink" purchases in the shops of the Kinepolis cinemas. Please allow for a waiting period to take your test on site in the dedicated area. Performing a self-test will only be possible up until 15 minutes ahead of the start of the screening.
*Non-refundable voucher, no money back, for any purchase with a minimum value of 2.50 €.
