Critics Award 2017
CRITICS AWARD
GLORY (SLAVA)
by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov
Special distinction:
for I AM NOT MADAME BOVARY by Feng Xiaogang
The ALPC - Association Luxembourgeoise de la Presse Cinématographique dedicated the CRITICS AWARD to GLORY by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, and awarded an honourable mention to I AM NOT MADAME BOVARY by Feng Xiaogang.
ISABELLE DEBUCHY, THIBAUT DEMEYER, JEAN-PIERRE THILGES and RAUL REIS issued the following statement: "The choice of the Press Jury, representing the ALPC - Association Luxembourgeoise de la Presse Cinématographique - goes to a film about current affairs with qualities to break through our indifference.
It is a story about corruption, in a world where politicians ignore their fellow citizens, humiliate them and do not hear their voices.
In addition, the Press Jury was impressed by the quality of the actor in the leading role, Stefan Denolyubov, a railroad man too honest to succeed in a society made of unscrupulous vultures, but also by the quality of the script and the accuracy of the directing.
For all these reasons, the Critics Award goes to the film "Glory" by Bulgarian directors Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov."
Afterwards, they presented their special distinction to I AM NOT MADAME BOVARY:
"The formal beauty of this melodramatic comedy and the quiet pace of a narrative that reveals the thread of a legal imbroglio in a society where women had to accept their fate, prompted the Press Jury to award a special distinction to the film "I am not Madame Bovary" by the Chinese director Feng Xiaogang."
