Grand Prix 2017

GRAND PRIX 2017 – BY ORANGE LUXEMBOURG: 10,000€

THE OTHER SIDE OF HOPE (TOIVON TUOLLA PUOLEN)
by Aki Kaurismäki

THE OTHER SIDE OF HOPE by Aki Kaurismäki has been awarded the GRAND PRIX BY ORANGE, worth €10,000, at the Awards Night on 10th March 2017 at Kinepolis Kirchberg.

Statement by the International Jury (SANTIAGO AMIGORENA, FAOUZI BENSAÏDI, DOMINIQUE BESNEHARD, MONIA CHOKRI, HANDE KODJA and CHRISTOPHE WAGNER)

"Before announcing the winner of the Grand Prix, chosen without too much difficulty, we would like to give a little nod to the great Alexis Juncosa. While we are used to being part of festival juries, we have rarely seen a selection of such a high calibre.
Out of the ten selected films, we spent many hours debating nine of them, not because we held strongly differing views, but because the pleasure involved in discussing each film, the honesty or ambition of each director, led to some enthralling debates.
Thank you Alexis. Thank you also to all those who have welcomed us here, to this small country.

The film we wish to award the Grand Prix to, because it made us laugh, because it moved us, because it tackles a subject that we deem crucial in these dark times, because it tackles this subject in a very relevant and very original way, is The Other Side of Hope, by Aki Kaurismäki."
