KIDS JURY AWARD

MATTI AND SAMI AND THE THREE BIGGEST MISTAKES IN THE UNIVERSE (MATTI UND SAMI UND DIE DREI GRÖSSTEN FEHLER DES UNIVERSUMS)
by Stefan Westerwelle

For the third time, the Festival invited a school class of 8-12 year olds (Cycle 2.2. of the Batty Weber primary school in Limpertsberg) to watch and analyse a selection of 5 films from the 2019 Young Audiences programme. The KIDS JURY AWARD was presented to MATTI AND SAMI AND THE THREE BIGGEST MISTAKES IN THE UNIVERSE (MATTI UND SAMI UND DIE DREI GRÖSSTEN FEHLER DES UNIVERSUMS) by Stefan Westerwelle during the Festival's Awards Night on 16th March 2019 at Kinepolis Kirchberg.

Tom Pauly, the teacher of the Limpertsberg primary school’s cycle 2.2. class, explained his pupils’ choice as follows:

“First of all, we’d like to express our gratitude at having been asked to take part in this year’s Luxembourg City Film Festival as the Kids Jury. We really enjoyed choosing a winner and watching many great and exciting films. All of the films we saw had something to them and in the end, it was a close decision but MATTI AND SAMI AND THE THREE BIGGEST MISTAKES IN THE UNIVERSE (MATTI UND SAMI UND DIE DREI GRÖSSTEN FEHLER DES UNIVERSUMS) came out as the winner.

MATTI AND SAMI AND THE THREE BIGGEST MISTAKES IN THE UNIVERSE manages to be funny without ever losing its seriousness. The universe’s three big mistakes are true-to-life and understandable. The naked bums and well-timed farts made us laugh a lot, but we were also worried about what was going to happen to the protagonists who ended up in dicey situations as a result of their lies. The actors were very convincing and the dynamic camera angles threw us right into the action. The costumes were well chosen and Sami’s superhero suit in particular will stick in our memory for a while.
The film tells a beautiful story about a family who occasionally fight– just as in real life – but who get reunited in a happy ending.

We hope that Stefan Westerwelle’s trip to Luxembourg to present his film will take him even further and lead to many more awards!

And last but not least, we’d like to thank the entire LuxFilmFest team for this unique experience and opportunity to look behind the scenes of the film industry. A special thanks goes to Gloria and her team behind the school programme, and especially to Sam who taught us how to analyse films properly and always gave helpful advice in the decision-making process.”
