Youth Jury Award 2019

YOUTH JURY AWARD – BY KINEPOLIS: 2,000€

STYX
by Wolfgang Fischer

Honourable mention:
FIRECRACKERS
by Jasmin Mozaffari

The YOUTH JURY AWARD was awarded to STYX by Wolfgang Fischer, subsidised with 2,000€. Additionally, a special mention was presented to FIRECRACKERS by Jasmin Mozaffari.

Explaining their reasoning, Frederica Cardoso de Jesus, Laura Didderich, Danielle Ferreira Da Silva, Sophie Lethal, Damir Mehric, David Steichen and Gabriel Thym who made up the Youth Jury, stated:

“As young film fans and admirers of the cinema industry, it was an honour for us to take part in this beautiful competition. We would like to thank Gloria, Ana and Camille from the Festival for this invaluable experience.

Over the last eleven days, we have attended seven film screenings. All of the films we’ve seen were of high quality, making it really hard for us to choose a winner, which is why we would like to give out a special mention on top of our main jury award. Our special mention goes to a feature film about a young woman’s determination to leave her rough town: FIRECRACKERS, directed by Jasmin Mozaffari.

Even though it barely used any dialogue, the winning film exposed us to a dilemma that is sadly still making headlines. Staged as a chamber piece with a remarkable performance from the lead actress, the film helps viewers understand the complexity of refugee politics. For this, we present the Youth Jury Award 2019 to STYX by Wolfgang Fischer. Congratulations!“
