Palestinian filmmaker Elia Suleiman first became known for his short films and co-directions during the decade he spent in New York, over which he developed a poetic style that combined drama and burlesque. Chronicle of a Disappearance (1996) won the Best First Film Award in Venice and put him on the shortlist of directors regularly invited to official competitions, starting with Cannes, where he was awarded the Jury Prize in 2002 for Divine Intervention (2002). The Jury President of the LuxFilmFest’s 12th edition will give an exceptional Masterclass on Saturday, March 12th at 3:30 pm. A retrospective will allow you to rediscover his four feature films: Chronicle of a Disappearance (1996), Divine Intervention (2002), The Time That Remains (2009), and It Must Be Heaven (2019).
