ROUND TABLE "ELDORADO – the reality?"
Public Round Table
In collaboration with Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.
The various themes addressed in the documentary “ELDORADO” by Rui Eduardo Abreu, Thierry Besseling and Loïc Tanson and their complexity are of huge importance to Luxembourg. The round table “ELDORADO – facing the reality of immigrant life” shines an educational spotlight on the documentary.
This is a unique opportunity to take a look at Luxembourg’s longest and largest immigration, that of Portuguese-speaking people, from the sixties to the present day. What does the social integration of these tens of thousands of people look like? What is their economic reality? Luxembourg’s schooling system as a social and economic factor of integration – a success or a long history of failures? Who are these people still arriving in Luxembourg from Portugal every day? What image do the Portuguese have of Luxembourg, which is perceived by some as an “eldorado”? What lessons are to be learned from this long history of Portuguese-speaking immigration for the current immigration wave of war refugees from the Middle East?
