The Ape Star
Sweden, Norway, Denmark, 2021 / 75 min / French version (FR) / Animation, family
An unexpected meeting between a mother and her daughter, a story of adoption tinged with humor and tolerance!
Jonna, an 8-year-old girl, has always lived in the Sun orphanage. One day, her dearest wish finally comes true: she is adopted. However, Jonna is beyond surprised when she discovers that her new mom is… a gorilla! After a period of adaptation, far from her friends and learning to live with a new atypical mother, things start to get better and Jonna begins to blossom under Gorilla's benevolent and tender eyes. Mother and daughter soon realize that they have more in common than they initially thought. But things go south when the terrible Tord, the mayor of the city, threatens to separate them in order to take back Gorilla's land where he wants to build a huge water park that would bear his name.
“This animated story from Sweden about an unusual adoption is gently paced, quiet, and quirky.”
