Clovis Cornillac was born in 1967 in Lyon, France. He left home at fourteen to become an actor. Self-taught, he never took acting lessons and started out doing street theater, then subsidized theater and film castings. In a decade, he has become an icon of French cinema in different genres: intimate, comic, dramatic or even thriller films. In 2005, he received a César for Best Supporting Role for his role as a football player in Lies and Betrayals. Then followed the successful films Brice de Nice and A Very Long Engagement.
He is also known for his roles in Chevaliers du Ciel (2005), Les Brigades du Tigre (2006), and Asterix and Obelix at the Olympic Games (2008), in which he succeeds Christian Clavier in the role of Asterix. He directed his first film A little, a lot, blindly in 2014, then Belle and Sébastien 3: The Last Chapter in 2017.
C’est magnifique ! is his latest feature film as a filmmaker.
