Clouds over Sidra
USA, 2015 / 10 min / OV + Engish voice over / VR Documentary
The Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan is home to over 80,000 Syrians fleeing war. Half of these are children. Clouds Over Sidra is the story of a 12-year-old girl who has lived there since the summer of 2013. The film follows her to school, to her makeshift tent and even to the football pitch.
It’s the first ever film shot in virtual reality for the UN, using the medium to generate greater empathy and new perspectives on people living in conditions of great vulnerability.
Clouds over Sidra is a collaboration between the UN SDG Action Campaign, UNICEF Jordan, and Hollywood Production studio Vrse.

Motivations : “We’re great with empathy, but we really want action because we’re the UN. We need to shift the needle on things” Gabo Arora, Filmmakermagazine, 09/15/2016
“Clouds Over Sidra” is a short but powerful Virtual Reality (VR) narrative.”Adam El-Masri, The Newspapper.ca, 09/18/2016
I had connected with this girl from across the world. In just seven minutes in virtual reality, I had felt just a small piece of what it meant to live her life. I had felt the desolation of looking out over the camp and not knowing what would become of its inhabitants. Erica Swallow, The Tech Online Edition, 07/052015.
