USA, 2019 / 98 min / English OV / drama, thriller
When a young man meets a beautiful bank robber and falls for her, it’s the beginning of the adventurous life he always wished he had.
Texas, in the 1930s. Eugene, a naïve 17-year-old, lives a quiet life and helps his family make a living as they have to cope with dust storms and the Great Depression. When a 20,000$ reward is offered for the capture of Allison, a mysterious and beautiful fugitive involved in the killing of five people during a holdup in a nearby town, Eugene’s dreams of adventures seem a real possibility: He incessantly imagines how he’ll turn her in, claim the bounty on her head and begin a new life. When he discovers that the fugitive is hiding in his family’s barn, injured and at his mercy, he is immediately captivated by her charms and hurries to help her. Together, they go on the run, hunted by the authorities. The dreamlands Eugene and Allison seek appear to be at the tips of their fingers until Eugene slowly realises there is much, much more to her than meets the eye. Is Allison merely using him to save her own skin?
Margot Robbie stars alongside young Finn Cole in this period drama - an ambitious, sweeping production that combines immaculate direction, exquisite cinematography, and outstanding chemistry between the lead actors. A moving story about growing up and living with the consequences of your choices. Reality is rarely as black and white as we’d like it to be. Dreamland definitely has an air of Bonnie and Clyde about it.

“At 27 years old, Miles Joris-Peyrafitte proves himself to be one of the most exciting young directors around with Dreamland, a drama with dazzling visuals, subtle performances and deft nods to classics like Days of Heaven and Bonnie and Clyde. […] A lovely, evocative film.” Caryn James, The Hollywood Reporter, 28/04/2019
"Miles Joris-Peyrafitte makes a grand stride forward in his ambitious second feature, a singular if somewhat slow-to-alight outlaw romance set against a Dust Bowl backdrop. […] Cole, who was a regular on the series Peaky Blinders and Animal Kingdom, gives a star-making performance here, opposite the ever-impressive Robbie […] Dreamland has such a strong identity of its own, it’s hard to believe that the project is just Joris-Peyrafitte’s second feature.” Peter Debruge, Variety, 13/05/2019
