Biography

Joseph Frank Keaton, best known as Buster Keaton, was born in 1895, in Kansas. He is a famous American film comedian, director, producer, screenwriter and stunt performer. He is often considered one of silent cinema’s supreme talents. His trademark was physical comedy with a consistently stoic, deadpan expression. At 21 he started to work in the film industry with a small role in Roscoe Arbuckle’s film The Butcher Boy (1917). His most productive period took place during the 1920s. His collaboration with the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios made him lose his artistic independence and creativity and was followed by a time of personal crises. After a recovering in the 1940s, he earned an Honorary Academy Award for his career in 1959. Buster Keaton died in 1966.

Edward F. “Eddie” Cline was an American screenwriter, actor, writer and director best known for his work with comedians W.C. Fields and Buster Keaton. He was born in Wisconsin in 1891 and died in Hollywood in 1961. Edward F. Cline began his career in the film business as an actor for the Keystone Studios. He worked with Charlie Chaplin in some of his shorts made at the studio. Starting 1916 he specialised in directing actors such as Buster Keaton, Ford Sterling and Mack Swain to name a few. During the 1920s he collaborated with the biggest Hollywood studios, as well as in France and England. He started working with the comedian W.C. Fields during the sound era and due to his sense of timing soon became his favourite director.
