Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon

Ana Lily Amirpour

United States, 2021 / 106 min / English OV with French subtitles / Fantasy

En présence de la réalisatrice

A supernatural teen (Jeon Jong-seo, Burning)  with dangerous powers escapes from her mental asylum and tries to make it on her own in the neon-lit streets of New Orleans’ French Quarter. Along the way, she befriends a pole-dancer (Kate Hudson), whom she helps to protect from the city’s dangers.

This nocturnal film by the director of A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT is a beautiful tribute to the fantasy and adventure cinema of the 1980’s.

“With Mona Lisa, I wanted to create a new type of hero who faces the problems of a modern and twisted reality. An adventure-fairytale to explore what personal freedom is in a chaotic society that makes it hard to feel free.”
