SHOOOM’S ODYSSEY (L’ODYSSÉE DE CHOUM)

Julien Bisaro

France, Belgium, 2019 / 26 min / French OV, with little dialogue / Animation

Part of the short film collection Shooom’s Odyssey

A little owl leaves on an adventure to find an adoptive mum.

Shooom, a baby owl, hatches just as a storm turns the bayou surrounding her tree upside down. After falling from her nest, the little fledgling totters off into the mangrove, pushing a second egg from the brood along with her. She’s determined to find a mother, come hell or high water, even if that mom turns out to be an alligator or a raccoon! Together with her unhatched little brother, she sets off on her first big adventure.

The screenings on 05/03 at 11.00 and on 09/03 at 09.00 unfortunately had to be cancelled.

Biography

Julien Bisaro took his first steps in animated filmmaking at the Fine Arts School in Épinal and at the Poudrière School in Valence. As part of his studies, he worked on three films, including his first short, The Eyes of the Cyclone (2006). He then intensified his work in the field of animation, working in various positions: as an animator on L'ondée (2008) by David Coquard-Dassault, as a set designer and layout man on Tomm Moore’s The Secret of Kells (2009), and as a storyboard artist and graphic co-author on The Painting (2011) by Jean-François Laguionie. In 2014, Julien Bisaro directed Bang Bang!, co-written with Claire Paoletti. It was nominated for the César as best animated short film in 2015, and selected in more than ninety festivals. Following Bang Bang!’s success, Julien Bisaro and Claire Paoletti founded the production company Picolo Pictures.
