SILENT LAND

Anna et Adam, a bourgeois Polish couple is renting a vacation home on a dreamy Italian island, when their strict daily routine is interrupted by an accident.
This drama triggers a chain of events, leading them to act instinctively and irrationally, and ultimately ends up breaking their relationship, which is only perfect in appearance.
“Silent Land is a film about the collapse of a relationship, but more broadly speaking, it’s about something more important that concerns me: the collapse of the value system in the modern world, the general indifference to reality, and social lethargy. Ultimately, Silent Land is a tale about alienation, not only from each other, but also from the world. It’s about conformity and passivity, where the need for safety and convenience is a strategy for survival. I wanted to show, albeit not in a literal way, how the whole world remains blind to the tragedy of the immigrants.” Director’s Statement, Aga Woszczyńska

Aga Woszczyńska is a Polish director and screenwriter born in 1984. She studied at the Polish National Film School in Łódź. She directed several short films which were selected in international festivals, including Fragments which had its international premiere at Cannes in the Directors’ Fortnight section in 2014.
Silent Land is her feature debut.
