In 1991, while spending the Christmas holidays with the royal family at their Sandringham House, Princess Diana decides to leave Prince Charles.
The marriage of Princess Diana and Prince Charles has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. There’s eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. But this year, things will be profoundly different. Spencer is an imagining of what might have happened during those few fateful days.

Born in Santiago in 1976, Pablo Larraín is one of Chile's best-known directors as well as a major producer through his production company Fabula. After studying audiovisual communication at Santiago’s University for the Arts, Sciences and Communication, Pablo Larraín turns to filmmaking and goes on to direct eight feature films, including the Oscar-nominated features No (2012) and Jackie (2016). For No, he also won the Art Cinema Award as Best Director in Cannes. His films are straightforward, generally aggressive and interspersed with violence, painting a hard-hitting portrait of Chile. In 2017, Pablo Larraín and his brother Juan de Dios produce Sebastián Lelio’s A Fantastic Woman which won the first Chilean Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2019, he returns to Santiago in Chile for Ema, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. The film was presented in official competition at the Luxembourg city Film Festival 2020.
