United Kingdom, 2016 / 28 min / French version (FR) / animation, adventure, family

Left unsupervised, five siblings and one dog set off in search of bears.

Left unsupervised whilst their parents pick up Grandma, five intrepid siblings decide set off across the countryside in hunt of bears. Coming up against a host of obstacles, Stan, Katie, Rosie, Max, the baby, and their loyal dog Rufus venture through whirling snowstorms, thick oozing mud and dark forests on their ambitious quest. When Rosie and Rufus are separated from the group, the rest must do their best to find them.

This British film is adapted from the beloved children’s book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by author Michael Rosen and illustrator Helen Oxenbury.

“Lovely hand-drawn animation does justice to Helen Oxenbury’s illustrations of siblings embarking on an adventure; Michael Rosen’s percussive, repetitive words present a bigger problem. Something needs to be added, so scriptwriter Joanna Harrison boldly introduces not just Mum and Grandma (Olivia Colman and Pam Ferris) but a note of deep, clear sadness.” Jack Seale, The Guardian, 24/12/2016

“It is located in the real world, but also adds element of magical realism. This is a world where children are free to roam on their own, in a world without health and safety where a summer’s day turns immediately into a snowstorm. There is something timeless about it. And I’d thoroughly recommend you watch.” Ben Dowell, Radio Times, 24/12/2016
