DARIUS KHONDJI

Born in Tehran in 1955 to Persian-French parentage, raised from a young age in France, and schooled at NYU, Darius Khondji’s international upbringing would prepare him for an equally international career, working with some of the greatest living directors and helping them to express their visions through the language he knows with unparalleled fluency, that of the cinematic image. Through the years Khondji has worked with talents that include David Fincher, Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro, Wong-Kar Wai, and James Gray, and while his work for each is as distinct as the worlds they create, he brings to every film a compositional genius and a peerless attention to minute qualities of atmosphere, gifts which allow him to pick and choose his collaborators. His work on Delicatessen (1991) established his international reputation and earned him a Cesar nomination for Best Cinematography. An outstanding filmography, his works include Seven (1995) by David Fincher, The Lost City of Z (2016) by James Gray, Amour (2012) by Michael Haneke, Midnight in Paris(2011) de Woody Allen, Roman Polanski's Ninth Door (1999), Bernardo Bertolucci's The Stolen Beauty (1996), and Sydney Pollack's The Interpreter (2005).
