Nicolas Steil began his career in the 1980s as a journalist. In 1986, he founded Iris Productions, his own production company, producing documentaries, television reports and commercials. In 1988 he was key in the establishment of P.A.L., Luxembourg's first association of producers, and contributed to the creation of Luxembourg's double financing system for audiovisual productions. From 1991 to 1996, he was General Director of EURO AIM, a European Commission MEDIA financing and marketing programme. Since 1988, Nicolas Steil has represented Luxembourg at AGICOA, and spearheaded the creation of ALGOA in 1999. Serving as General Secretary of ULPA since 1997, he negotiates on behalf of and represents Luxembourgish film producers. The same year, he initiated the IRIS GROUP's expansion into an international production and distribution company with branches in 5 European countries, producing feature and animation films, documentaries and TV series. Nicolas Steil also ventured into directing with 2009's "Réfractaire" which was selected for over 30 international film festivals, winning 6 awards.
