
STEFAN WESTERWELLE
Stefan Westerwelle is a German director and screenwriter born in 1980 in Detmold. From 2001 to 2006, he studied film and television at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. During his studies, he directed several shorts, as well as the animated film Simplicity and Complexity is One (2002). His first feature film While You Are Here (2006) is selected by the Locarno Film Festival where it received a special mention by the jury. In 2012, he directed the documentary Detlef: 60 Years Gay about German gay rights activist Detlef Stoffel. The film is shown in the Panorama section at that year’s Berlinale. Matti and Sami and the Three Biggest Mistakes of the Universe (2018) is his first children’s film.
