Joachim Lafosse was born in Brussels in 1975. After receiving his diploma from the IAD (Institut des Arts de Diffusion), he directed his first feature film, Private Madness (2004), selected for competition at Locarno, in 2004. In 2006, he shot two features, Ça Rend Heureux (2006) (in competition at Locarno, and Grand Prix du Jury of the Premiers Festival Plans of Angers) and Private Property (2006) with Isabelle Huppert (in competition at Venice). His fourth feature, Private Lessons (2007) was shown in the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes in 2007. Joachim Lafosse’s career gathered speed with the release of each new film, earning him national and international recognition: Our Children (2012) was selected for Un Certain Regard and won Best Actress for Émilie Dequenne. In 2015, he made White Knights (2015) with a top-tier cast (Vincent Lindon, Louise Bourgoin, Valérie Donzelli and Reda Kateb). The film was presented at Toronto and won Best Director in San Sebastian.
