Belgium, Luxembourg, France, 2014 / 94 min / English and French with English and French subt. / Fiction

A homeless young hairdresser agrees to bear an older woman’s child in exchange for enough money to start her own long dreamt-of salon. Holed up in the elder lady’s English country home by the sea, the two women first warily circle each other, then slowly start to bond around convoluted questions of motherhood. (Ronnie Scheib, Variety, September 15 2014)

Just like “The Boat Race”, “Melody” is about parentage, about adoption, about two women who will find, one a mother and the other a daughter. That is what the film is really about. (Bernard Bellefroid)
