Synopsis

The true colours of Cyndi Lauper.

Alongside lively archival footage and interviews, this portrait traces the meteoric rise of Cyndi Lauper. It highlights the profound impact this unique artist has had on several generations through her music, her ever-evolving punk style, her unwavering feminism and her activism. Using never-before-seen footage and interviews (with Boy George, Patti LaBelle and Cindy Lauper herself), documentary filmmaker Alison Ellwood succeeds in following the Lauper phenomenon through its greatness and its moments of doubt. Featuring some of the American artist’s best-known songs, the film tells of the singer’s inspirations, as well as her activism in support of women’s rights and LGBTQI+ people.

A tender and furiously energetic portrait.
