Biography

Jonathan Demme was a prolific American filmmaker, producer, and screenwriter whose career spanned over three decades. Demme directed a number of critically acclaimed films, including Silence of the Lambs (1991), which won Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, and Best Actress at the Academy Awards. His concert film Stop Making Sense (1984), now widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time, was added to the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry in 2021.
