Biography
Pen-ek Ratanaruang is a leading Thai director and screenwriter whose work has shaped contemporary Southeast Asian cinema. After studying at the Pratt Institute in New York and working as an illustrator and designer, he gained international recognition with his debut feature, Fun Bar Karaoke (1997). Films such as Monrak Transistor, Last Life in the Universe, and Invisible Waves cemented his reputation in the early 2000s, while his widely acclaimed noir thriller Samui Song (2017) premiered at Venice.
