Synopsis

A socially engaged crime thriller

Madrid, 2011. Hottest August on record. One and a half million pilgrims are awaiting the Pope’s visit and the city is under surveillance by security forces. Several elderly women are brutally raped and murdered. Two inspectors whom nobody wants as partners have to deal with each other. They receive a clear order: solve the case as soon as possible, but keep it quiet.

Rodrigo Sorogoyen

Born in 1981, Rodrigo Sorogoyen is a Spanish director and screenwriter. After his studies in screenwriting at ECAM film school, he co-directed his first feature film 8 Dates at the age of 25. His self-produced film Stockholm premiered at the Malaga Film Festival and won several prestigious awards in Spain. His third feature, May God Save Us (Que Dios nos perdone) gained international recognition and was nominated for the Goya Awards. In 2017, his short film Madre competed at the Oscars, and his fourth feature The Realm (El reino) won seven Goya awards, including Best Director and Best Screenplay. In 2022, his latest film The Beasts (As Bestas) triumphed once again at the Goyas. His most recent project is the series The New Years (Los años nuevos).
