Women as lovers (Liebhaberinnen)
Synopsis
A trade fair hostess becomes fixated on a young cam girl that she discovers online. As one woman compulsively reinvents herself and the other takes drastic measures to escape her circumstances, an unseen bond emerges between them. Two parallel lives begin to expose the limits of a system where self-branding supplants liberation, optimization masks exploitation, and fulfillment remains endlessly deferred.
A contemporary adaptation of Nobel Prize-winning author Elfriede Jelinek’s 1975 eponymous novel, Women as Lovers is a razor-sharp tragicomedy with an incisive performance from Johanna Wokalek that dissects the impossible position of women under late capitalism.
