Through short excerpts and examples past and present, we study the predecessors of films such as Knit’s Island (programmed at LuxFilmFest in 2023) as the latest entries in the exciting development of feature documentary films made in video games.
The master class analyses the emergence of reality in the virtual universes of video games as well as the development of the new filmmaking approaches they encourage. By introducing practical and theoretical approaches to post-cinematic and post-internet media, we move beyond the usual question of the impact of video games on reality. Instead, we take a look at the opportunities and challenges that arise for filmmakers when both worlds, virtual and physical, collide.
