Biography

Born in Berlin in 1984, Mascha Schilinski is a German director and screenwriter. In 2012, she began studying direction at the Filmakademie Baden-Württenberg. Made during her studies, her first short film The Cat (2015) was screened at the Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival. Her graduation film and first feature, Dark Blue Girl (2017) was nominated for the Best First Feature Award at the Berlin International Film Festival, and won five awards at the Vancouver International Women in Film Festival. Her sophomore film, Sound of Falling (2025) was selected in Competition for the 78th Cannes International Film Festival, where it picked up the Jury Prize. He was also selected to represent Germany in the Best International Film category at the 2026 Oscars.
