On Wednesday 6 May at Ciné Utopia, we invite you to an exclusive screening of The President’s Cake, the gripping debut feature film by Iraqi director Hasan Hadi. Presented at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes in 2025, this film is a rare cinematic work that combines the poetry of a fairy tale with the harsh reality of a complex historical context.
A moving tale that highlights the strength of love and friendship in the darkest of times.
In 1990s Iraq, 9-year-old Lamia must bake the President’s birthday cake. She scrambles to find ingredients for this compulsory task while facing potential punishment if she fails.
Discover the film on Wednesday 6th may at 8 pm at Ciné Utopia.
About LuxFilmLab:
The first Wednesday of every month, LuxFilmLab – a joint initiative by Luxembourg City Film Festival and Kinepolis – highlights one feature film, chosen in cooperation by LuxFilmFest’s team and the Kinepolis programme team. A member of the Festival programming team introduces the special LuxFilmLab screenings, with the aim of supporting films whose release dates didn’t allow for them to be selected for the Festival itself but whose artistic qualities would very likely have led to their inclusion in the LuxFilmFest line-up.
*LuxFilmFest isn’t involved in the commercial aspects of these screenings. Access to the screenings and ticket prices are set by Kinepolis.
