Mit der Faust in die Welt schlagen
Synopsis
In 2006 Saxony, brothers Philipp and Tobi move into an unfinished house with their struggling parents. With few stable adult figures and limited prospects, the boys are left to navigate school, home, and the surrounding countryside on their own. As Philipp begins spending time with a group of older boys, their bravado and xenophobic violence give him a sense of adventure and belonging.
A remarkably assured coming-of-age story grounded in the verdant landscapes and simmering political tensions of post-reunification East Germany. Constanze Klaue’s confident debut is a prescient study of how ideology can form in conditions of social dislocation, long before it is named.
